California Cypress

CALIFORNIA CYPRESS
4x10
$150

Here is the California Cypress that I drew yesterday. It has been so long since I was posting on a regular basis, I just forgot to do it yesterday.

"Southern Cypress"
7 1/2 x 22 inches
$150

I have been asked by so many friends and followers, "what happened to the paintings-a-day?" so I decided to try to do some sketches as often as I can. I have a very hectic work load at this time with three commissions in process and one just completed and four that need to be photographed. My work load is what caused my posts to slow down to a trickle and then to a stop. However, the quick sketches at the end of my day has been very relaxing and enjoyable.

I love southern cypress trees and decided I would attempt a few. Here is my first one. I hope to have more in a few days.

Enjoy!

WOW! It has been FOREVER since I did a still life for a painting-a-day. I have been so busy with commissions after my move this summer that I haven't had time just to paint for fun so I signed up for a still life class with a very talented friend of mine and this is what I did yesterday, the first day. It's not bad for a three hour painting. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next class.

Best In Show!!!

Well, I think my blog should be titled A-Painting-Every-Few-MONTHS at this rate. I have been busy with a move and getting settled and haven't had time to paint much except for the commissions that I have to catch up on. I am slowly getting myself caught up and look forward to painting for myself.

I did enter this pastel of Emma into the Johns Creek International Music & Arts Festival and it won BEST IN SHOW! I was very pleased to receive this award, especially for this painting.

I just finished this pastel of my dog Emma for the Pastel Society of America's National Exhibition. Keep your fingers crossed for me that she gets in.
I love this photo of her. She often forces her way in between me and my easel and sits there just like this when she wants something. Either to go out, to play or something to eat so I thought it was about time I captured it. After all, I do think she is my doggie Muse!
Enjoy!

Southeastern Pastel Society Exhibition

WOW! I won Second Place for my portrait of Aslan in the Southeastern Pastel Society's Member's Exhibition last night. I was so surprised. I was too busy chatting with my friend Kathleen that I missed my name and they had to say it again!

I also won an Honorable Mention for my Swirly Sucker piece!

BIG NIGHT LAST NIGHT!

Navy Hospitalman Zachary Alday, 22

This is my second soldier portrait that I have painted for the Art From the Heart project and this one was really tough for me. I guess it was harder because I wasn't on such a short deadline like I was with Jamaal's portrait so I had more time to really think about him and his family. Needless to say this project has been a very emotional yet rewarding experience for me and the others involved but you don't realize how deep it touches you.

A local magazine is doing a 24 page article about the project and we have been editing the biographies of 30+ soldiers and I think once I am finished I will have to take a day and just cry. They were so young and had such great futures ahead of them. Not to mention all of the loved ones left behind.

Anyway, please visit our website to view all of the beautiful portraits that are being uploaded daily. And if you are in Atlanta on September 8th, please plan to attend our exhibition's opening. We would love to see you there! www.AtlantaFineArtsLeague.org/ArtFromtheHeart.html

Hi Everyone,
This is the painting I have been working on of my soldier. I, along with four friends created Art From the Heart where Georgia artists donate their time to paint the portraits of fallen Georgia soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan, free of charge for the families left behind.

This is Jamaal Addison and he was 22. He was the first soldier from Georgia to die in Iraq. I will be presenting this painting to his mother and family on March 23rd at a memorial service, the 4th anniversary of his death. I am really looking forward to it because this project has meant so much to me and I really have enjoyed painting him and getting to know him and his mother. If you would like to learn more or know of a family who might benefit from this project, please visit our website at www.AtlantaFineArtsLeague.org

I painted this in the Fall and thought I would share it. I have been working on a portrait of the first Georgia soldier to die in Iraq so I haven't been able to do any little sketches. Hopefully I will get back to it this coming week. Once the soldier is finished I will post him for you.
