I have really enjoyed doing these little tree sketches. I have some more I would like to draw but I am getting busy and haven't had time to sketch them.

Spring is my second busiest season and it is now picking up. I will post more soon when I have them to show.

I have been working on these two drawings for the past week and they are intended for a group show coming up in April.
The photos were taken by my grandmother who was an avid photographer. These are from the Piedmont Interstate Fair sometime in the 50's or early 60's. She gave me these photos when she was still alive and I have had them tucked away for over 16 years. I am glad I stumbled upon them because they made such great working material.

I have been asked by so many friends and followers, "what happened to the paintings-a-day?" so I decided to try to do some sketches as often as I can. I have a very hectic work load at this time with three commissions in process and one just completed and four that need to be photographed. My work load is what caused my posts to slow down to a trickle and then to a stop. However, the quick sketches at the end of my day has been very relaxing and enjoyable.

I love southern cypress trees and decided I would attempt a few. Here is my first one. I hope to have more in a few days.

WOW! It has been FOREVER since I did a still life for a painting-a-day. I have been so busy with commissions after my move this summer that I haven't had time just to paint for fun so I signed up for a still life class with a very talented friend of mine and this is what I did yesterday, the first day. It's not bad for a three hour painting. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next class.

Well, I think my blog should be titled A-Painting-Every-Few-MONTHS at this rate. I have been busy with a move and getting settled and haven't had time to paint much except for the commissions that I have to catch up on. I am slowly getting myself caught up and look forward to painting for myself.

I did enter this pastel of Emma into the Johns Creek International Music & Arts Festival and it won BEST IN SHOW! I was very pleased to receive this award, especially for this painting.

I just finished this pastel of my dog Emma for the Pastel Society of America's National Exhibition. Keep your fingers crossed for me that she gets in.
I love this photo of her. She often forces her way in between me and my easel and sits there just like this when she wants something. Either to go out, to play or something to eat so I thought it was about time I captured it. After all, I do think she is my doggie Muse!

Southeastern Pastel Society Exhibition

WOW! I won Second Place for my portrait of Aslan in the Southeastern Pastel Society's Member's Exhibition last night. I was so surprised. I was too busy chatting with my friend Kathleen that I missed my name and they had to say it again!

I also won an Honorable Mention for my Swirly Sucker piece!

This is my second soldier portrait that I have painted for the Art From the Heart project and this one was really tough for me. I guess it was harder because I wasn't on such a short deadline like I was with Jamaal's portrait so I had more time to really think about him and his family. Needless to say this project has been a very emotional yet rewarding experience for me and the others involved but you don't realize how deep it touches you.

A local magazine is doing a 24 page article about the project and we have been editing the biographies of 30+ soldiers and I think once I am finished I will have to take a day and just cry. They were so young and had such great futures ahead of them. Not to mention all of the loved ones left behind.
